After the great success of the ‘86 Asian Games and numerous other sports competitions, we have gained the expertise and confidence needed to host the 24th Olympiad. For 16 days, from September 17th to October 2nd, more than 23,000 athletes and delegates from 167 IOC member countries will compete in 23 sports.
Many hands are joining together to prepare for the Seoul Olympic Games. The cooperative energies of he Seoul Olympic Organization Committee, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Sports, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Korean National Tourism Corporation (KNTC) and many other organizations are united in an intensive effort reaching toward the summer of 1988. We are all dedicated to welcoming and satisfying our visitors from around the world.
The newly-built Seoul Sports Complex and Olympic Park will serve as the two principle venues for the Games. The Complex comprises the Olympic Stadium, site of the opening and closing ceremonies as well as track and field events. These outstanding facilities were already put into use at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul and earned a gold medal for excellence.
We have made every effort to assure accommodations for all of our visitors. No matter what your budget, a home away from home awaits you. The Visitors Bureau, which was established within KNTC under the guidelines of the Ministry of Transportation, ensures sufficient availability of comfortable rooms in Seoul and its vicinity.
In addition to sports highlights, a rich program of international cultural events is planned to compliment the 24th Olympic Games. The major events are scheduled from August through October. These events will include a multitude of presentations: traditional Korean performing arts, international folk art festivals, and special exhibits of photographs, ancient artifacts and art objects.
A closer look at Seoul and its vicinity is sure to uncover memorable discoveries. Seoul is a rare city which maintains its precious legacy even in the midst of rapid development as a cosmopolitan city. During the Games, a total of 18 tours will be operated for those tourists who want to discover Seoul and the countryside within the time-limit. These tours are especially organized for tourists, so that they can conveniently explore Korea’s natural beauty and oriental charms. Seoul is a showcase of variety.
